2,067 People Displaced In Kaduna Camps

There are a total of displaced 2,067 people in the refugee camps in Kaduna state, Daily Trust learnt. It was gathered that of the six camps set up by the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), only two are still functional.

“We are not happy staying here. The government and other donor agencies assisted us with food stuff and other basic needs of life, but we lack basic ingredients to prepare the food,” one of the refugees at the Rido camp, Bala Ibrahim told our correspondent.

At the Mararaban Jos Camp, Musa Yakubu, a refugee said, “We are happy with what the government did for us, but we still need more from other well meaning individuals”.

The Executive Secretary, SEMA, Ishaku Dogo Makama, could not be reached for comments, but a staff of the agency told our correspondent that the government is aware of the remaining people at the camps.

“The Executive Secretary set up a committee and they visited various camps. The team was led by the Assistant Director, Planning Relief and Natural Disaster Management, Nuhu Gyams. The government is working on their report and there is no cause for alarm,” she said.
